The TGs, Evelyn, Alex, and Duane, enjoyed an wonderful day paddling and fishing on the South Llano River from Second Crossing to the KC150 bridge. Although the water was skinny, 53 CFS, we managed to paddle (and push at times) our way down the whole section of this beautiful Hill Country river Great day!.

San Marcos River at San Marcos Scout Camp. This is a TPWD leased fishing access point. Bring cash and drop a couple dollars in the self serve drop box before entering the camp. I started at the furthest upstream point of the campground and walked in the river down stream. With one rod and a shoulder pack, this is the different varieties of fish I landed. 1/8 oz red/white rooster tail.
I headed to the San Marcos River in Martindale Tx. I utilized their public park for access and walked in the river with one rod and a small shoulder pack. My focus was on two small lures, a rooster tail and the tried and true ned rig.
Pecos River near Pandale Texas: The Pecos River at Pandale is incredibly remote and desert like. There is no cell phone service and no fuel stations within 50 miles, so go prepared. You will traverse many miles of harsh gravel roads on your way to the bridge, 10-15 mph was a common speed for me. I explored 3.7 miles of this breathtaking landscape, by paddling upstream then coming back down to my truck.
I headed to the mouth of Pecos River which is less then 1 mile from the USA/Mexico border. I’ve been wanting to paddle amongst these beautiful cliffs for a while now, and was finally able to make the 275 mile journey a reality. I paddled 2.5 miles upstream and covered just over 5 miles total.

Winter fishing is notorious for being slow, however I love this time of year. Cool mornings around 32 degrees slowly warms up to 60 during the day, for enjoyable river fishing all year round here in Central Texas. This trip I focused on top water to start the day specifically using my go to top water Rat. Other baits I often use are 4.8 Keitech with underspin in blue-gill flash color, and a 3/8-1/2oz swim jig white/green with matching trailer works great as well. I am using the Crescent LiteTackle kayak with Werner Corryvreckan paddle, and Astral Sturgeon pfd.
I launched at Vernon Richards Riverbend Park, paddled up stream then back down to the park. Bring your kayak cart as it’s 50 yds to the river from the parking area. My go to bait was a 5″ bluegill Keitech swimbait on a 3/8oz Owner flashy swimmer. The wildlife was abundant as a Bald Eagle, two Osprey’s, cardinals, doves, deer, and turtles graced me with their presence. Great day on the water!
